Activities in Ireland

Have you ever dreamed of galloping along a golden beach at sunset? Would you love to trot through a narrow mountain pass? Or would you rather meander down a woodland path carpeted with bluebells? Ireland has it all for those who love horseback riding! Your accommodation hosts can assist you or you can have Michele help make the arrangements for you.

Fishing season varies depending on the type of fish and the area you choose. Whether you want to enjoy fly fishing or game, coarse or sea angling Ireland is an ideal place to fish. A state license is required for salmon and sea trout but no license is needed for brown or rainbow trout. Check with the local Fishery Manager for details.

Cycling in Ireland is very popular. Bikes can be rented in almost every town, or you can bring your own (check with the airline for charges). County Clare, the southwest of Ireland and Connemara are popular venues for cyclists. Ireland's less traveled roads and country lanes are perfect for this type of relaxed sightseeing.

Ireland is a golfer's paradise and offers a superb combination of world renowned links and parkland courses. In Ballybunion there are two courses. The "Old Course" is a par 71, 18 hole challenge that weaves through towering sand dunes. The "New Course" is a par 72 course, designed by Robert Trent, and is noted for its narrow fairways and tough par fives.

Hiking is a wonderful way to experience Ireland. There are many way-marked trails throughout the country ranging from easy to difficult. Known locally as "hill walking" you can choose mountains, hills, beaches, bogs and canal tow-paths. There is organized hiking available all over Ireland or you can choose to do it yourself.

Water sports are a natural for a country that's surrounded by oceans and full of sparkling rivers and lakes. There are many different options available from sailing, sea-kayaking and cruising the Shannon River to scuba diving, surfing and frolicking with dolphins.
